Studies were undertaken to redesign the pumping stations' hydraulic installations and a treatment process established for the Chaisubani water treatment station.
With a population of around 175,000, the town of Batumi lies on the Black Sea, close to the Turkish border. It is a tourist town and also has a port.
The German development bank, KFW, financed the project to rehabilitate and extend the drinking water and sanitation facilities.
